Do I need voltage transformer to charge Kindle in Italy?

Group, I am very low-tech, so please bear with me.I bought a Kindle last year and brought it with me to Italy. I brought the heavy little box (transformer) and 2 round-prong adaptor to plug it in that trip. I read on a previous post (James’) that perhaps I just bring the little outlet 2 prong plug in. I hope I understand correctly. Are you saying that I do NOT need to bring the transformer this time? Is there some little voltage switch that I must engage before plugging into the wall in Italy rather than using the voltage transformer? I don’t want to burn up my Kindle by just plugging it into the wall with the little outlet round prong plug (adapter) w/o transformer.(I’m not interested in buying books while traveling or connecting to computer, which I’m clueless about anyway), just reading books bought it US ahead of time and need charged Kindle.)Thanks so much.

should we really be shocked about ebook prices?

I see the occasional kindle book selling for $40 and it’s outrageous. I can’t imagine anyone would ever pay that kind of money for an ebook unless they are A.) desperate B.) fabulously wealthy or C.) stupid. That the book isn’t selling SHOULD be enough of a wake up call for the publisher to lower the price.But price gouging isn’t new, and certainly exists in print, even more so than it does in electronic for. Take my favorite recent example, the free book "Milrose Munce" found here: Milrose Munce and the Den of Professional Help is currently selling for no less than $218. That’s completely insane.I looked into buying Ramopakhyana – The Story of Rama in the Mahabharata: A Sanskrit Independent-Study Reader today because I’m learning Sanskrit, but I just can’t justify the $70 for a book right now.Yes, prices are going up on ebooks and hopefully with some effort we will be able to drive them back down, but really, we are in a much better position than those who DON’T have an ebook reader. Publishers have been price gouging since the invention of the printing press.

its a shame that so far kindle 1 owners havent been able to get another update. i mean, aren’t they the ones that have supported the device from the begining? i think they deserve it.

I am sure it won’t matter in the grand scheme of things but I have made a personal decision not to buy a Penguin book, even from Amazon, until the dispute is resolved. It may never be and I understand that. Today I purchased two books from the used book store and I am going to revive my library card as well. I have made two Wish Lists for Penguin, one showing what I’ve read and the other for unread. In addition to having a list for the used book store/library when I go, I can see on the Kindle whether any of the books have "gone Kindle." It’s too bad it’s come to this and I have to tell you, it’s very strange to read a "regular" book after a two years of Kindling. But there is no way I am buying any other device.

After a long career teaching English, I retired and now substitute in the school where I used to teach. So, the other day I was in a studyhall and reading Christopher Morley’s book of essays, "Pipefuls." I always enjoyed Morley’s quietly civlized prose and his droll observations on all manner of topics.Well, in an essay titled "A Discovery," he mentioned coming upon a book in a used bookstore called "Old Junk" by H.M. Tomlinson. He waxed enthusiastic about Tomlinson’s prose, and I thought that, if it it’s good enough for Morley, it’s good enough for me. So I turned on the wireless, called up the Magic Catalog, searched for "Old Junk," found it, and downloaded it–all in less than 2 minutes.Had I tried to do this in the days before Project Gutenberg, the Internet, and Kindle, it could have taken me months to find that book–if I ever did.When I mentioned this miracle to the students, they were not impressed.

Differentiating Kindle reviews

I don’t usually leave reviews for books but lately I’ve been thinking that I’d like to highlight some pros and cons of various Kindle editions. How do y’all think Kindle edition reviews should be differentiated from paper edition reviews? Do you title your reviews differently? Have a section for comments on the Kindle edition alone? Forego reviews and leave comments in the book’s discussion forum? Before I start leaving reviews I thought I’d see there if there are any unofficial standards. Thanks!

I see people talking about people changing their kindle addresses to get their penguin books. How legal is this? Could we get in trouble?I got mine through iBooks but of course but I’m kinda anal about keeping my collections together and I have all my Sookie, Kate Daniels, BDB etc on my kindle. So I’d like to have kindle editions also.But how dangerous is this? Could Amazon come after us? Take the books back without refund? Or is this no different then going over the border and buying it?
