Dear Washington Friends & Neighbors,I am now the enthusiastic owner of a new Kindle DX and so I thought it natural to get to know the others out there in my region who love reading – and who love reading on the Kindle especially!I’m in Bellingham, Washington; my real name is Bruce Hendler; and my ‘handle,’ ‘tag,’ or ‘nickname’ here at Amazon is TrueEarth.I read mainly non-fiction with a focus on Popular Science and History. I am particularly interested in understanding the overall picture of our planet from the perspective of physical geology. (Now you see where I got my nick.)I am publishing a ‘Kindle Only Edition’ of a book I am writing on that subject before 2009 is over. Thus, my interest in buying, using, learning and talking about the Kindle.I visualize this Discussion as including any topic related to Reading and/or the Kindle. Obviously, with special attention paid to how the two go together!Technical issues, Publishing questions, and such are better covered in other forums. This could be a place where we talk about content available for the Kindle; User experiences, Rants & Raves; and how your friends, family, neighbors and associates react and interact with a new Kindle on the scene? Buying Kindle Books if you don’t have a Kindle …

I live in Australia and therefore cannot have a Kindle. I bought a Sony 700. I was recommended an author, Sorcha MacMurrough, thru the Amazon forums and want to read her books badly. I had a look around e-book stores and she’s not for sale at any of them. I thought oh well i will have to buy the paperbacks, only to discover all the Rakehell serie, which is what I so badly want to read are Kindle only. Wah! Does that mean I can’t read her? Is there any way I can, from Australia, buy her Kindle books (obviously I don’t have US credit card address) and if so, can they be transposed over to PDF or something so I can put them on my Sony e-reader?Some help please!

charging the kindle 2

I just started having problems charging my kindle 2. I connect the charger to the wall and plug it into my kindle but all it does is blink and when I check it it shows that it has not been charged does anyone now it my power cord is bad or if its my kindle?

Oh come on … this is very nice that people are doing this, but I wonder if it isn’t dangerous, and why can’t Amazon.Com put some demo units at Borders or some local stores or something – maybe in big cities.?I’m thinking hard about buying a Kindle2 … but the way this is being marketed and sold is really disrespectful to good faithful Amazon customers … this kind of puts me off Amazon.Com in a way to see what this is doing to people. There has to be a better way … come on Amazon!This is like guerilla anti-viral marketing. Buy it sight unseen, untouched, at a very high price. Then, the people who do buy it are not going to be willing to really honestly tell people whether it was a mistake or not, because they are invested in it … heavily … and would feel foolish to admit such a costly mistake. So, as with many things people say, it’s great, whatever they think, and Amazon.Com and screwed people with a marketing strategy that I was hoping would be beyond them.I think I really might like the product, but with no test drive, and not being able to see and touch the thing … I don’t like this at all, and I don’t like Amazon for thinking they can make me go there.
