I make a real effort to follow the posting guidelines for the forum. I’m usually quite the stickler for following rules (if you want to jaywalk, I’m not your best walking partner
). When I first got to the forum, though, I didn’t read the guidelines.I didn’t even think about there being guidelines (you can see the link in the bottom of the posting box…d’oh!). So, I inadvertently violated something, and Amazon let me know about it (and deleted some of my posts). I understand them doing that.I’ll admit that the rules are still a bit mushy to me, so I try and err on the side of being conservative. There are posts that I see that seem to clearly violate the guidelines (especially by being inflammatory, spiteful, and/or denigrating). I don’t know if they aren’t corrected because I’m misinterpreting the guidelines or because of incomplete enforcement. So, I used to include the title of one of my books in my "signature" on posts, and I thought that was part of the violation I had made. I was asking a different question recently, and was told by Amazon that it was okay to include a book title in your post (at the bottom). Here is part of an e-mail from Amazon Customer Service:==================="We do allow you to put your name and the book that you are the author of though, so you could leave that on Customer Discussions as part of your signature." ===================(Excerpt from an e-mail to Bufo Calvin received on July 3 2009)So, that’s nice and unambiguous.
They didn’t say you could link to it, though. I still think you shouldn’t advertise your books here, except in threads for that purpose, as they indicated before and you can see in this thread:http://www.amazon.com/tag/kindle/forum/ref=cm_cd_ef_tft_tp?%5Fencoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&asin=B00154JDAI&cdThread=Tx2XOUV88K4V7A8(Amazon thread relevant to the discussion)However, I do like it when authors post here. I like knowing they are authors. Honestly, I still get a book nerd thrill in having an author in the same place I am. I hope that never goes away.
I think it’s good that forum members can take a look at the book if they want.Anyway, I wanted to let the authors on the forum know that’s it’s officially okay to put your book title in your "signature".
