Tom Hoobler sent out the following email :"We’re letting everybody who ever sent us an email about our books know that we have published two new books, but they are only available online. The books are: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WITCH FOR, about Olivia, a girl who comes to New York to stay with her aunt for a year, only to find out that the aunt holds covens (witches’ meetings) in her back yard. But Olivia asks one of the witch-neighbors to help her attract a boy in her school who doesn’t know she exists. The neighbor helps Olivia cast a spell, but that’s where the trouble really begins. We want you to know that it’s funny as well as spooky, so it’s all right to laugh. The other book is DR. CHILL’S PROJECT, which is about Allie, a girl who has spent most of her life in mental institutions. One day a woman comes to take her away, because Allie has a "special" talent that makes her a valuable subject of a scientific research project. She comes to live at the house of Dr. Chill, to find that there are other young people there with special talents. When one of them disappears, they have to unite to rescue her. We originally wrote this a few years ago, but have completely rewritten it for this special digital version. The two sites where these books are available are: smashwords.com, and scribd.com. You can view samples of the books (up to half the book in some cases) on each site for free. If you want to read the rest, you’ll have to pay the site, but it’s a pretty small fee: $2 or $2.50, far less than you would pay even for a cheap paperback. You can download the books onto your computer and read them off the screen or print them out. On Smashwords, you can also download them onto a reading device, like a Kindle, a Sony Reader, a Palm, or even an iPod. The sites make it pretty easy to download, and we really think this will be the wave of the future. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WITCH FOR isn’t available in any paper format, and probably never will be. "Seikei" will send you a sample soon.We know that a lot of you are waiting for the next book in the Samurai Detective series (starring Seikei and Judge Ooka). Believe me, we’re eager to write it, and if this online experiment works out, this is how we will make it available. Please let us know what you think after looking over the sites. We love to hear from readers and we want you to be happy!Best wishes,Tom and Dorothy Hoobler"***ER here:I enjoyed reading Be Careful What You Witch For and am looking forward to reading Dr. Chill’s Project later this week. The Hoobler have written many children’s/YA books, and a couple adult books, as well.I especially have enjoyed the Samurai Detective series. Philomel has released 2 of the later books in the series on Kindle, but not the early ones, and apparently doesn’t have a huge interest in releasing the rest. According to the Hooblers website, Philomel has told the authors they don’t want any more Samurai Detective novels. I’m guessing from the email that they would release the next Seikei book as an e-book instead if this experiement works out.Would you check out the Smashwords site and try out the free kindle sample (50%)? I’d love to read the next Seikei and Judge Ooka novel on my Kindle (with or without Philomel, lol).Edit: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/XTrain
