Backing up notes & bookmarks?

Amazon sending me a replacement for my K2 as mine freaks out in sunlight & 3/4 of the screen fades instantly when I take it outside :-( Now, I’ve only had my k2 for just over a week but already I have quite a lot of notes, bookmarks and highlights in some of my books, including on a few personal pdfs that I transferred.I know I can save My Clippings txt file, but is there any way I can back up the books with notes and then just transfer the backup onto the new kindle when it arrives so that the books also have the notes (not just the My Clippings file)?Secondly… Until today, I hadn’t used Whispernet before, only USB uploads (I have to go for a little walk down the road to get service). So today I decided to do that so I could get some sample books, but when I did a sync, it REPLACED one of my books with copious notes with a brand new copy of the book and deleted all my notes.Anyone understand why that happened?
