I prefer hard science fiction to general science fiction which is often really fantasy with a little bit of "technology".Book I recommend: Desire of Many. It is set in the future a couple of hundred years. The greatest civilization on Earth is in decline and others are ascending. The main character is a chemist with his son although there are others who are very important as well. There is a new technology, a trump card of sorts, that can help that nation preserve itself from decline. Quantum expansion entagles the Earth while the chemist Tomoyuki leaves to terraform a new world. It is a very good book only available on Kindle.
