With all its ironies, this incident MAY end up helping e-books evolve in a couple of ways. A strong public precedent like this can force Amazon to clarify procedures for recalls etc. in the NYT article, they’re already saying it won’t happen again. I think it showed publishers that Amazon is serious about copyright violations – the way they went about it was wrong, but it may help MORE books become available in the long run. E-books and e-readers are relatively new still and there are kinks to be worked in publishing and delivery, and at the end of day, Amazon is not the government and they are here to make money so let’s see if this incident may have sliver lining down the road.
