Gift Cards to Buy Kindle Books

Okay, I know that there have been many, many posts about using Amazon gift cards for Kindle books and that it can be done. My question is a bit more specific, if you will bear with me. (-:When I apply my gift card to my account (say I buy one for $25), the next time I make a Kindle book purchase with the "Buy with One-Click" button, the amount will come out of the GC balance instead of from my credit/debit card, correct? If I make another type of purchase from Amazon (grocery item, regular book, whatever), the only way the amount would come out of there is if I used 1-click, right? Otherwise, when I go to checkout, I’d have the opportunity to select a debit/credit card to use instead of using the gift card?I just want to make sure that if I add a gift card, it only goes for Kindle books, so I can keep better track of my purchases and don’t, as some others have said here, have a bunch of small charges showing up in my checking account statement. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
