Kindle 2 Failing to remember last page read

My Kindle 2 is failing to remember the last page read after the unit is turned off. When turned back on it loads the first page of the book and using Synch To Last Page Read returns that the first page of the book is the last page read. When it’s put into sleep mode, it remembers the last page read. It will remember Notes and Bookmarks when turned off. Sent an email about the problem to Amazon’s support and got no answer. The book I’m having this problem with is Stephan R. Lawhead’s "Hood". Table of Contents is also grayed out on the Menu screen for this book. Haven’t checked other books to see if the problem exists with them as well.Anyone know if this is a problem with the digitized version of this particular book or is it a problem with the Kindle system software? Anyone else experienced a similar problem? Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks for any help you can give.–Kevin
