I post this to kick start a discussion on what Amazon should do to broaden then Kindle’s reach and improve the kindle at the same time. I’m not talking about 3 to 5 years out, but the next version within the next 12 months. No yet ready for color screens. So here is my take on what should be done.Starter Kindle:- Slim down the original Kindle’s form factor.- Same Screen, memory, CPU. As all should be cheaper now.- Keep the wireless- Get rid of the SD card slot- Make the cover optional- Get rid of the MP3 capability- Price it at $99 or $129Kindle Elite:Start with the Kindle 2 and add- WIFI to speed up browsing when available (this will make browsing less expensive for Amazon and faster for the user)- Make the battery replaceable- Offer 3 or 5 free books (up to some value)- Add bluetooth for head phones and a remote control- Add the SD card slot back- Increase the screen size by 1/2 inch.- Price it just under the Kindle DXI purposely left out software upgrades that can be added to all Kindles like better MP3 player support, folders, tagging, etc. I really want to focus on the hardware.
