Let me preface this by stating I have not yet purchased a Kindle because it does not quite meet the criteria I am looking for, but I am hoping the DX will, or if not maybe some other company’s ebook reader will in the future.I have read dozens of reviews of the Kindle 2 on this site and read some on other sites too. One thing I have noticed is there is this certain group of people who seem to patrol the reviews here on a daily basis. They are most likely the ones marking down almost all negative reviews as not helpful, regardless of the quality of the review, and are frequently posting comments to those reviews arguing with the reviewer, sometimes in a hostile manner. Now I realize that a lot of the 1 and 2 star reviews are pointless and many times written by people who do not own a Kindle, and for some reason do not like the idea of it. This is not really that hard for any half way intelligent person to figure out if they bother to read enough reviews and I certainly do not need someone to point out the obvious. But some of the negative reviews, or even decent ones with some negatives points in them are very useful. For example I have learned that the Kindle does not handle PDFs and even converted do not come out formatted well, which is why I am holding off for now. I have also learned that the Kindle seems to be rather fragile and if dropped the wrong way can ruin the screen, which is why I will purchase the extended warranty if I do purchase one in the future, after all humans being human accidents will happen. I also learned that the battery life can be limited unless you turn off the wireless feature when not in use, which will come in useful if I do buy one someday. This is all useful information. For some reason though it seems a certain group of people have designated themselves as Kindle Review Police. I have noticed these same people posting in negative reviews almost every day, sometimes even copy and pasting the same exact lines like they have it saved in a .doc file or something. I rarely see them post in any positive reviews. Sometimes they do post useful information in the comments but many times it’s just comes off as hostile because someone dared to criticize the Kindle. A lot of the positive reviews aren’t particularly useful and are nothing more than fluff. "I love the Kindle, it’s the best thing ever and I never put it down" is not exactly telling me much about the product, yet these reviews aren’t commented on by the Kindle Police. This has lead me to conclude that these certain people are nothing more than fanboys who cannot and will not take any criticism of the Kindle. As to why they feel it their duty to patrol the reviews daily and attack almost all negative reviews I don’t know.I really do like the idea of the Kindle and it seems from all my research that the Kindle 2 is the best ebook reader on the market currently. But it’s not perfect. It has it’s shortcomings and thankfully for the detailed negative reviews, I learned that it isn’t exactly what I’m looking for. It’s a good thing that all the reviews aren’t just 5 star fluff pieces because that’s not informative. It’s not for everyone and therefore not everyone has to like it, and those people are entitled to post their opinions as well. So to the Review Police crew I really think you guys and gals need to give it a rest. The Kindle isn’t going to stop selling well because some people post some negative reviews, after all over 80% of the reviews are 4 and 5 stars. And if a few people like me decide to hold off for now so what? I’m sure life will go on.
