PDF conversion for Mac Users

I just tried using Automator today for the first time after someone in our user group said he had created a workflow to extract text from a PDF to an editable text file. It worked even better than the Amazon conversion I had tried for a 2-column newsletter. Calibre made an unusable mess of the same newsletter. Best of all, it happened in about a second.I opened Automator, chose the default Custom workflow, then clicked PDFs in the left column where actions were listed. Drag the Extract PDF Text action over to the right side and look over the options you can set. For Kindle, keep the default Plain Text option. But you need another action from the Files & Folders list to supply the name of the file you want to convert. Drag the Ask for Finder Items action above the action already in the right column. To test it, click Run in the upper left corner and choose a PDF file to be converted. If you like the way this works, save as a workflow you can open up in the future. I’m running 10.5 (Leopard).
