Puzzled by file extensions .tmp and .tan

I finally decided to back up my Kindle content so I connected my K2 to my computer and opened the Documents folder. I saw that most of my books appear in two versions — one with the extension .azw and one with .mbp. However, some books also have either a .tmp or a .tan extension.I know what .azw and .mbp are, and I assume .tmp is "temporary" (though I don’t know why there would be a temporary file), but .tan is a mystery to me. I couldn’t find anything in a Google search except for one site that said it was an unknown extension and might be a registry error. I don’t know how it could be an error in my registry since I have not yet transferred that file to my computer. So, these are my questions:1. Why are temporary files included in my content?2. What is .tan?3. Should I back up all the files or just the ones with .azw and .mbp extensions?
