I see the occasional kindle book selling for $40 and it’s outrageous. I can’t imagine anyone would ever pay that kind of money for an ebook unless they are A.) desperate B.) fabulously wealthy or C.) stupid. That the book isn’t selling SHOULD be enough of a wake up call for the publisher to lower the price. But price gouging isn’t new, and certainly exists in print, even more so than it does in electronic for. Take my favorite recent example, the free book "Milrose Munce" found here: Milrose Munce and the Den of Professional Help is currently selling for no less than $218. That’s completely insane.I looked into buying Ramopakhyana – The Story of Rama in the Mahabharata: A Sanskrit Independent-Study Reader today because I’m learning Sanskrit, but I just can’t justify the $70 for a book right now.Yes, prices are going up on ebooks and hopefully with some effort we will be able to drive them back down, but really, we are in a much better position than those who DON’T have an ebook reader. Publishers have been price gouging since the invention of the printing press.
