The Downside of Reviewing Indie Authors

Posted by Kindle 09 Jun 2009 No Comments »

I reviewed a book called "Ten Stories" by a self published author who put it on sale for $.99. I assumed that he did this because he wanted people to buy, read and review his book.Obviously, I was mistaken. I did not like it at all & reviewed it as such.He thought it appropriate to mark my review as ‘unhelpful’ and attack me in a remark on my review, accusing me of having no sense of humor.I do have a sense of humor, but I have to admit that I do not find a story about a 12 year old passing gas very humorous (just one of his 10 stories).Has anyone else read this book? What did you think? If you don’t like a book, are you just supposed to forget that you paid for it and not write a review? Is the review process only for good reviews?I truly write my reviews in hopes of saving others some time & money in a lot of cases & to recommend great books in other cases. No, I am not a literary critic. I have no credentials other than my love of reading. But, isn’t that what the Amazon Review system is for, people like me?
