Will they just say ho hum and return your money? Because I don’t want the money back, I want the book.The Kindle edition I purchased of Arthur Laurents’s ORIGINAL STORY BY is missing big hunks of the book. At location 29780, in a paragraph about the actress Geraldine Brooks, a sentence trails off "She loved Stash, he" and is followed immediately by a new chapter, Chapter Three, with begins with an account of the opening night of the play "The Bird Cage." A few paragraphs later, a passage about the actress Stella Adler arriving at the first reading of the play (around location 2994) ends "Seating herself at center stage, she read like royalty visiting a hospital, accepted compliments." The next paragraph is obviously part of another section, perhaps even another chapter, and concerns the problems in the author’s romantic relationship with Farley Granger: "Had there been others, then? A carpenter like my carpenter? And like a couple of more that I’d had? It was different for me, of course, just sex, over and forgotten, no emotional connection. But he was different, he was pure!" Obviously I’m missing a pivotal part of two different stories. We hear no more about "The Bird Cage," and the author and Granger are off to the Charlie Chaplins. I was really enjoying this book. Not only do I not know what ended one storyline or how another started, now I don’t know what else I’m going to find missing (or it’ll be missing but I won’t know it).I’m one third through the book, and I’d rather they’d clean up the digital file and send me the book in its proper state than just refund my money. It’s one thing to see a lot of formatting problems and misspellings — I hate it but I’m used to it on Kindle. It’s another thing to get way into a book and then not even be able to follow it.
